What Every Parent Should Know

Parenting is hard work. Children come with more than butterfly kisses and sticky fingers. In fact, family life may seem like a constantly shifting landscape of emotional outbursts, sibling rivalries, resistance and demands. Understanding your child’s basic needs and learning to respond in ways that are the most effective for his or her age may help you cope and increase communication and connection between you and your child. One of Intermountain’s clinical leads, Kristin Best, LCSW and registered Circle of Security parent education facilitator, is offering a special workshop on childhood development. You’ll learn how children develop from infancy to latency (age 11 or 12) including how they think, what they feel, and how they relate to you and others. And you will learn to recognize realistic expectations and patterns of communication for different ages. Plus you will have the opportunity to share the experiences of other parents.
