Science and Art Collide at Exploration Works
New Afterschool Program at ExplorationWorks Science and Art Collide Students step into a world where science and art are smashed together (quite literally). Challenges include making colors with chemistry, landscapes with light, robots that draw, art slinging contraptions, and take a geological survey of a cupcake. Wear your painting clothes and bring your pocket protector for this blend of experimentation, creation, and innovation. Classes run from February 22nd through March 21st from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. each Wednesday. Cost is $63 for members; $70 for non-members. Have you ever wanted to work in a mad scientist's laboratory? If so you are in luck because ExplorationWorks has just hired a pair of mad scientists. Come meet Alec Kerins and Devon Lawson as they showcase the bizarre and wonderfully explosive world of science. Make your own flying saucer, blow smoke like a fire breathing dragon, shatter frozen flowers and create foaming elephant toothpaste. ExplorationWorks launches a new series for adults with the first “Ask An Expert” program of the season. Join Carroll College professor Dr. Kelly Slater Cline as he discusses the Large Hadron Collider, the world’s largest and highest energy particle accelerator. This is the project you’ve seen on numerous televised specials on the Discovery Channel, Science Channel etc. This huge particle accelerator is located over 500 feet underground on the border of France and Switzerland and has created quite a buzz amongst scientists worldwide. Community Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA)
CMCA (Communities Mobilizing Change on Alcohol) works on alcohol prevention by helping to change the environmental factors in our community that promote teenage drinking. Examples include Responsible Beverage Server Training, Party Patrols, Minor in Possession Diversion Program, Complaints Checks, and local policy to hold adults accountable for providing alcohol to teens.
